Demi Lovato's Engagement Ring: The Pear Solitaire, Explained
When Demi Lovato said yes to musician Jordan "Jutes" Lutes in December 2023, the ring did most of the talking: one large pear-shape diamond on a plain band, with nothing else competing for attention. Here is what has actually been reported about it, what is only an outside estimate, and how to get the same look.
Quick answer
- Shape: a pear-shape diamond, set as a solitaire.
- Jeweler: a bespoke ring created with Material Good, the New York fine jewelry boutique, as reported by People.
- Size: never officially confirmed. Outside jewelers have estimated around 4 to 5 carats.
- Value: also unconfirmed. Published estimates range from about $80,000 to $250,000.
- The look: a pear solitaire on a slim cathedral band. It is one of the simplest celebrity rings to recreate.
The proposal
Lovato and Lutes met in January 2022 during a songwriting session, according to The Knot. Lovato later told the LadyGang podcast, "The way that I met my boyfriend was actually in a session."
On December 17, 2023, People reported that Lutes had proposed in Los Angeles, and that the couple celebrated with their families afterwards at one of their favorite restaurants in the city. A representative for Lovato confirmed the engagement to the magazine.
The two married on May 25, 2025 in Santa Barbara, California. The bride wore custom Vivienne Westwood, as reported by Vogue.
The ring: what was reported
People described the ring as a bespoke pear-shape diamond engagement ring, created in collaboration with Material Good in New York. Lutes worked on the design with Teresa Panico, the boutique's Director of Marketing and Fine Jewelry, at its SoHo location.
That is the full extent of the confirmed detail. No official carat weight, color grade, clarity grade or price has been published. Everything beyond the shape and the jeweler comes from outside experts looking at photographs.

Carat and value: the estimates
Two estimates were widely quoted. Olivia Landau, founder of The Clear Cut, told The Knot that the ring "looks to be around a 4- or 5-carat pear in a cathedral-style solitaire setting," and put its value between $80,000 and $250,000 if the diamond is natural.
Zack Stone of the British jeweler Steven Stone described it to Marie Claire as a 5 carat pear and estimated it at $200,000.
Treat both as informed guesses. Neither jeweler made the ring or handled it, and a photograph cannot tell you color, clarity or exact weight. It is also why the range is so wide: at this size, grade changes price far more than a fraction of a carat does.
Why a pear solitaire works
A pear is a brilliant cut with one rounded end and one point. It carries its weight across a long outline, so it covers more of the finger than a round of the same carat. The length also draws the eye along the hand, which is why the shape is often described as flattering.
Set alone on a plain band, the outline is the whole design. There is no halo or side stone to soften it. That restraint is what makes Lovato's ring read as modern and not ornate.
The cathedral part refers to the shoulders of the band. They rise in two arches to meet the setting, like the arches of a cathedral ceiling. The arches lift the diamond, let more light in from the side and give the ring a graceful profile. The trade-off is height: a cathedral setting sits a little taller than a low basket.
What to check when choosing a pear
A pear is less forgiving than a round. Three things decide whether one looks elegant or awkward.
Proportion
The length-to-width ratio sets the character. Around 1.45 to 1.75 is the classic range. Lower looks plump, higher looks slender. This is taste, not quality.
The bow-tie
Most pears show a darker band across the middle. In a well-cut stone it is faint. It does not appear on a grading report, so look at the actual diamond face up.
The point
The tip is the most exposed part of the stone. It should be covered by a prong so it cannot catch or chip. Check this on any pear ring before you buy.
Symmetry matters too. The two curved sides should mirror each other, and the point should line up with the center of the rounded end. For more on shapes, read choosing a shape: what suits which hand.

The closest match in our collection is the Pear Cut Diamond Solitaire Ring with Cathedral Band: a single pear on a plain band with raised cathedral shoulders. It is available in platinum and in white, yellow and rose gold, with center stones from 1 to 5 carats.
If you prefer warmer metal, the same design comes in 14 KT yellow gold. For a lower, simpler profile, look at the Pear Cut Diamond Classic Solitaire Ring.
Every Rareva center stone is a lab-grown diamond from our own reactors, independently graded by IGI, GIA or HRD. That is the practical difference between admiring a 5 carat pear and wearing one: the same shape and size costs far less grown than mined. We explain the numbers in what a lab-grown diamond actually costs in 2026.
Questions people ask
What shape is Demi Lovato's engagement ring?
It is a pear-shape diamond set as a solitaire, as reported by People when the engagement was announced in December 2023.
How many carats is Demi Lovato's engagement ring?
The carat weight has never been officially confirmed. Outside jewelers who studied the photographs estimated it at around 4 to 5 carats.
Who made Demi Lovato's engagement ring?
People reported that it is a bespoke ring created in collaboration with Material Good, a fine jewelry boutique in New York.
How much is Demi Lovato's engagement ring worth?
No price has been confirmed. Published expert estimates range from about $80,000 to $250,000, depending on the size and quality assumed.
Is a pear diamond a good choice for an engagement ring?
Yes, if you like an elongated shape. A pear looks larger than a round of the same carat and lengthens the hand. Make sure the point is protected by a prong, and look at the actual stone for the bow-tie.
Which way should a pear engagement ring be worn?
Most people wear the point toward the fingertip, which lengthens the finger. There is no rule. Some prefer the point toward the wrist, and either is correct.
