The five sets

Emerald bezel pendant and stud set. The quietest of the five: an emerald cut lab-grown emerald of about 1.00 ct in a smooth full bezel, set sideways on a fine chain, with matching emerald cut bezel studs of about 0.50 ct each. Ruby pear bezel pendant and earring set. A pear-shaped ruby of about 1.00 ct in a smooth bezel, point up on a fine chain, with matching pear ruby drops that hang from small huggie hoops, about 15 mm in total. The only set with drops rather than studs. From $820 in silver, $1,700 in 10K, $2,390 in 14K and $3,810 in platinum.

Ruby pear and marquise pendant and stud set. A pear ruby crowned at one shoulder by a fan of three marquise lab-grown diamonds, on a chain dotted with small diamond stations; the studs repeat the pear and marquise motif. About 2.75 ct of stones in all, so there is sparkle as well as color. From $1,030 in silver, $1,950 in 10K, $2,660 in 14K and $4,250 in platinum.

Emerald diamond halo pendant and stud set. A round emerald of about 1.00 ct inside a halo of round lab-grown diamonds, framed by a smooth rounded bezel, matched on the studs. The halo makes the stone look larger and the green deeper. From $930 in silver, $1,910 in 10K, $2,670 in 14K and $4,260 in platinum.

Ruby or emerald

Ruby is lab-grown corundum, 9 on the Mohs scale, and wears well anywhere. Emerald is lab-grown beryl, 7.5 to 8, so it is happiest in pendants and earrings, which is exactly what a set is. Which metal

Every set comes in sterling silver, 10K and 14K gold in white, yellow and rose, and platinum. The stones and the design are identical; the metal sets the price and the mood. Yellow gold makes both stones look warmest, white gold and platinum make them look sharpest, rose gold softens ruby and flatters emerald. Silver is 925 sterling, nickel-free, and the honest way to give a real set under $1,100.

Stones and certificates

Every ruby and emerald is lab grown, and every diamond is a lab-grown diamond from our own reactors. The diamonds in these sets are accent stones under 1 carat, so they are not individually certified; IGI certificates come with single diamonds of 1 carat and above, such as the center stone of the oval starlight solitaire ring.

Every set is made to order in 3 to 4 business days, then delivered in 4 to 5 business days in the US or 5 to 9 internationally. Order by Thursday, 10 December in the US, or Friday, 4 December for international delivery. Shipping is free and insured, in plain packaging. Engraving is free.
